State-class Qingdao Economic & Technological Development Zone(QDZ) was established in October, 1984 with the approval of the State Council, as one of the first groups of state-class economic and technological development zones approve by the State Council in China’s 14 coastal cities open to the outside world which were granted following the establishment of special economic zones like Shenzhen. The construction of QDZ formally commenced in March, 1985. The core area of QDZ is 20.02 square kilometers as approved by the state and its peripheral region is 274 square kilometers in Huangdao district of Qingdao. The local population is 498,000.
  As a region enjoying the most favorable policies and with the most complete functions, it boasts not only a state-class economic & technological development zone, but also state-class Bonded Zone and Bonded Logistics Park, state-class New Technology Industry Experimental Development Zone, state-class Home Electric Appliance Industrial Zone, Fenghuangdao Tourism & Vacation Zone, and Zhushan National Forest Park. Over the past 20 years since it was started to be constructed, Qingdao Development Zone has invested over ￥30 billion in infrastructure to promote the economy characterized as “Large Port, Giant Industry, and Featured Tourism”. So far, a group of pillar industries including home appliance, petrochemical, automobile, ship building & maintenance, ocean engineering and port have been cultivated.
  Qingdao Development Zone is a national ecological demonstration zone and grade Ⅰfinancial safety region that has passed the ISO14000 environment management system certification and the ISO9001 quality management system certification and won the China Habitat Honor Scroll. In 2004, it was admitted as a platinum member of the Boao Forum for Asia. In 2006, QDZ ranked number 5 in investment environment comprehensive evaluation index and economic strength, and it ranked the top 10 in seven items of the eight items considered of which it ranked number 1 in social and environment index.
  Presently, the domestic famous enterprises like Sinopec, CNPC, CNOOC, CSIC, SAIC, Haier, Hisense, etc and 50 of Fortune Global 500 companies like GM Wuling , Mitsubishi, Panasonic, SK, Saint Gobain, Maersk, etc gather surrounding QWEPZ. Until now, the pillar industry groups have formed in QDZ named Home Appliance,  Automobile, Ship Building & Maintenance, Port and Ocean Engineering which provide a well-grounded industrial base for the development of QWEPZ.

  There is Haier, Hisense, Sanyo Electric, Sindoricoh and so on; digital home appliance, office electrical appliance, communication equipment, parts and so on are emphatically developed.
